Milano interior study organized by a dark-oak architectural volume

01 — Existing Shell

Existing shell

The apartment is treated as an existing architecture rather than a neutral container.

Proportions, mouldings, openings and parquet establish the conditions within which the new intervention takes place.

02 — The Insertion

A volume within the room

A dark timber volume is inserted into the historic shell.

Rather than dividing the apartment, it reorganizes it — concentrating functions while generating new passages, thresholds and relationships between spaces.

03 — Kitchen

Architecture becomes function

The insertion contains the kitchen without becoming conventional cabinetry.

Dark timber, stone and integrated light transform a domestic function into part of the architectural composition.

04 — Living

One language, different scale

In the living room, the same material language becomes quieter.

A full-height library extends the architecture of the central volume, creating continuity without repeating its mass.

05 — Material Junction

06 — Quiet Room

A quieter intervention

Away from the central volume, the architectural language becomes lighter.

Light, proportion and a single integrated gesture are enough to establish continuity with the rest of the apartment.
